Zuma for president – on one condition

Published by at 12:00 pm under Opinion,South Africa

Wow, things are coming to a point fast now. It seems, my guess in February that Mbeki won’t see this legislative period out as president, is about to hit the bull’s eye. Good for South Africa.

From what I’ve read recently (about how Mbeki governed, or non-governed) an early end to the political “slide” of the last two to three years might be good for SA and especially it’s economy – even if Jacob Zuma was to take over. On one condition only: Zuma must move fast to declare his confidence in Trevor Manuel and Tito Mboweni and so stop market speculation in its tracks that the two are on their way out and a big economic policy “jump-to-the-left” is facing the country.

Prepare for a choppy ride for the rand and the SA economy in general in the next months, if he doesn’t.
