IAM: Out of the ordinary
Someone at Investec Asset Management (IAM) is playing around with the idea of starting an investment blog for the company. Look here for a rough outline of things to come. Hope they don’t let this work-in-progress hang around uncompleted for long. (Ed: I see they’ve taken it away now…good for them.)
Afterthought: The website world of Investec and particularly Investec Asset Management is a bit “deurmekaar” at the moment, to put it mildly. In fact, all the sites and domains out there are quite confusing!
I assume (hope) the “less-than-optimal-web-strategy” has to do with the ongoing revamping of old company sites – and thus a temporary phenomenon.
IAM seems to have more than one site for private individuals in South Africa. There is one at www.investinyourfuture.com and on the company site at www.investec.com you’ll find a second one.
Select “Asset management” and “South Africa” on this site, and you’ll be taken to www.investecfunds.co.za. Here you’ll find a section for private individuals, which is completely different from the one at www.investinyourfuture.com.
Click on “Asset management” and “United Kingdom” on the corporate site (www.investec.com) and you’ll be taken to yet another IAM domain (www.investecassetmanagement.com), where you’ll find yet another section for private individuals.
Now, different content for different countries must be. But, why all the domains? (Three domains, not counting the Investec corporate site, from where one can also reach IAM).
Why not just one (say www.investecassetmanagement.com) for different countries and market segments? Or, if that’s too difficult to type, why not www.investec-asset-management.com? It can still be had for €12.
From an online marketing point of view – indeed “out of the ordinary”.
check out http://www.investecsecuritiesonline.co.za and give us your opinion on that…
Hi guys,
Thanks for the response.
I liked your site for its simplicity and clear navigation.
I also thought, if they are happy with the domain http://www.investecsecuritiesonline.co.za, then Hendrik must be happy with his http://www.investecassetmanagement.com (I thought he might have a problem with the length of it) and should get rid of all the other IAM domains.
As someone who thinks the appearance (first impression) of a site is extremely important, I could add that the way the copy runs over your indices table on the right of the home page, doesn’t leave a good taste. And, I would also not leave so much unused white spaces on the home page – also leaves the impression that all is not “completely under control”.
There are so many interesting features (bits of info) you could bring in on a broker site, like directors dealings, or summaries of recent research done by your rocket scientists.
Surf the German financial websites a bit, and you’ll blow your mind.
Apart from these small points, your site rocks, dudes. Of course, I don’t know how the engine purrrrs (talking about the trading section). And that’s the heart of it, I guess.
Bye from a cold (what’s new) Stuttgart.
