Two weeks ago we heard beer brewer InBev was looking to sell its business in Germany, including the German rights to the brand Becks, to help it finance the (rather expensive) acquisition of Anheuser-Busch.
Today the subscriptions only magazine Just-drinks.com reported an analyst saying Anheuser-Busch’s stake in Chinese beer brand Tsingtao might also be sold by InBev – for the same purpose.
Unfortunately my test subscription to Just-drinks.com ran out a few days ago. So, I am also “wondering” what the whole story is.

The German daily Handelsblatt reported today the Danish brewer Carlsberg might be interested in buying InBev’s brand Becks, with other InBev brands, such as Diebles, Hassröder and Franziskaner.
This follows on a report in FTD on Tuesday that InBev is considering the sale of its German business, including the successful Becks brand, to the German food manufacturer Dr. Oetker.
Carlsberg might have joined the circle of parties interested in buying the business, wrote Handelsblatt today. ”By acquiring these brands, the Danish company can round off its business in the northern German region,” the newspaper reported. Carlsberg already owns Holsten Brewery.
Sector insiders warned this might be a rumour carefully planted by InBev, to blow new life into the negotiations with the Dr. Oetker Group, which might not be heading in the desired direction.
